Head Lice Treatment For A Lice-free Head
When you think about head lice you may feel pain and dread. It’s scary if you or someone you know get lice. But – if you are chilled by the thought of being yourself infected with lice – you are not the only one, and there is hope. Despite the starting shock, head lice treatment can be quite easy. You may choose between various methods, and they are usually quite successful in removing lice from your hair.
Before you can treat hair lice, you need to determine whether you actually have an infection in the first place. Common symptoms of an infection include an itchy scalp (from the lice biting the scalp) and visible nits, or lice eggs. The nits generally resemble dandruff but are harder to dislodge.
If you have lice, you need a head lice treatment. Though various treatments exist, not all of them are thoroughly tested and/or scientifically proven. For best results, however, you are better off sticking to the tried-and-true methods that are luckily plenty.
A method for head lice treatment is to shave all your head. Once you have cut all your hair, the lice have nothing to cling to and will not remain on your scalp anymore. But a shaved head may not be in style with your personal choices. In the case, don’t worry. There are less drastic methods.
Combing the hair for lice can be very effective. For this, you’ll need to purchase a special lice comb. With this comb, you can remove both adult and young lice from the hair. Some combs allow you to remove nits as well. If you’re combing your hair for lice, it is helpful to oil the comb beforehand to allow it to glide more easily through the hair.
A chemical solution can also be used to kill lice and nits. An effective over-the-counter head lice treatment is permethrin, which is available in the form of lotions or shampoos. If those treatments are not strong enough, a doctor can prescribe stronger medication. For very young children, however, chemical treatments are not recommended.
Using a good head lice treatment should get rid of the lice within a week. However, it is still a good idea to check for any reaming lice. Getting head lice is not horrible, as long as you know how to get rid of lice.
Head lice are often confused with dandruff, but they are more difficult to eliminate. If you should ever become infected with hair lice, there are many treatment options available. A doctor can show you how to get rid of lice, which may be as simple as shaving all of your hair or using a special comb to remove the nits, or lice eggs. You could also use an over-the-counter head lice treatment, such as permethrin, which comes in a lotion or shampoo. If none of these methods work for you, your doctor can give you a prescription treatment.
