Today’s busy lifestyle often brings about constipation, even though there are healthy food options available. Many people suffers every now and again from small episodes of constipation. Alas, fecal impaction can easily and quickly result from a common bout of temporary constipation.

To counteract constipation, you must first look at what you eat on a daily basis. There are many healthy food options available at the grocery and even at fast food restaurants. However, there is a good chance that even though you’re eating healthy you may be getting constipated because of how you eat. Digestion starts with chewing properly, as within the chewing process enzymes start to breakdown nutrients. So, if you eat too quickly and don’t properly chew, you could become constipated.

Choosing what you eat is critical in warding off constipation. If you have constipation more often than usual, you may be eating too much fat or sugar. You likely need more fiber and can get it through supplements and the addition of vegetables to your meals.

Another fundamental part of healthy digestion is being sure you’re always properly hydrated. Drinking plain water is the best means of staying hydrated, as soda doesn’t count! The main focus in the digestive process is the ingestion of nutrients and the removal of bodily toxins. Consequently, if you consumer more fiber you will need to consume more water, or you’ll end up with a clogged lower intestine.

For those who eat by the book, vitamins may be the reason for constipation. Vitamins, even when used properly, can cause constipation. Iron supplements are among the most notorious.

A colon cleanse is another way to further thwart constipation or fecal impaction. A colon cleanse is not appropriate for everyone however, especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions. If your doctor advises you against cleansing your colon, they may instead tell you to drink prune juice after every meal.

A child who is constipated should be carefully looked upon by the parents. Fecal impaction should be avoided by careful observation and action. Often parents can easily look back over the child’s diet and backtrack to find a change and cause of constipation.

A child with chronic constipation should absolutely be seen by a physician. Often kids will swallow small non-food objects and they cause them to be constipated by intestinal obstruction. Obstruction can be life threatening, however an x-ray can show quickly whether obstruction is the problem.
